Ya Ali singer, Zubeen Garg, was the heartthrob of Assam. He was laid to rest on September 23, 2025, at Sonapur's Kamarkuchi village. Before his last rites, Zubin's second last post-mortem took place at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital in the presence of doctors from AIIMS. The mortal remains of the singer were brought back to the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, Sarusajai, before the last rites took place. Now, Zubeen's wife, Garima Saikia, cried a river during the funeral rites of her husband, Zubeen.
Zubeen was cremated amid the chant of the Vedic verses, the conch being blown, and the air was filled with emotion at Kamarkuchi. Zubeen's wife, in a white saree with her hands folded, sitting on the floor, broke down seeing her Zubeen one last time during the last rites held at the Kamarkuchi NC village crematorium. Zubeen's last rites were done by his sister, Palme Borthakur and also music composer, Rahul Gautam. Zubeen's close protege, Rahul, lit the funeral pyre as the air was filled with the gun salutes.
As seen in the video, Zubeen's family members circled the funeral pyre seven times, which was guided by priests, while well-wishers stood respectfully. A user seeing the heartbreaking video of Garima breaking down commented, "May you have that courage in this present situation, ma'am .. it's so disheartening." Others commented, "Om Shanti for the departed soul!. Zubeen Garg is a legend. My engineering life is full of his songs. Rest in peace." Some people found that it was insensitive to showcase Garima breaking down at the funeral pyre of her husband. As the flames from Zubeen's last rites rose, his fans chanted his name and sang his famous song, Mayabini Ratir Buku. The Assam Police also honoured the departed singer with a ceremonial gun salute and played the bugle instrument.
It was on September 22, 2025, when Guwahati saw a heartbreaking scene as fans came to the Sarusajai Stadium to offer their last respect to the musical icon, Zubeen. Amid the ones mourning, Zubeen and Garimia's four furry friends drew attention. They were carried in the stadium by Garima and Zubeen's close aides, and each dog was seen paying their last respect to the singer. The crowd was seen falliing silent as the dogs looked inside the coffin of the musician. A user who had shared the heartwrenching video wrote:
"Dogs do understand death. It’s always important to let them meet the departed person if they were very close. That final moment helps them realize and slowly accept that their beloved human will never return. Today, singer Zubin Garg’s family did something so compassionate and touching they made sure his beloved pets met him before his body was taken for the final rites. Such gestures speak volumes about love, loyalty, and respect for the bond between humans and their dogs."
Netizens, seeing the emotional video, also commented that it was very kind of the pets. They could now grieve, instead of wondering endlessly when their human will return. There were others who also shared that the heartbreaking video got tears in their eyes.
