Kapil Sharma is synonymous with comedy in India in many people's opinion. He was born as Kapil Punj to his parents, Jeetendra Kumar Punj and Janak Rani on April 2, 1981, in Amritsar, Punjab. No one in their wildest dreams could imagine that a boy from Punjab would go on to host his own show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, on the world's biggest streaming platform, Netflix.

From bringing families together to spreading smiles on so many faces, Kapil Sharma's charm is second to none. When Kapil Sharma was just 22, his father, Jeetendra Kumar Punj passed away, and the responsibility of running the family transferred to his shoulders. The youngster didn't turn his back on the tragic situation and started working at a PCO booth on a salary of Rs. 500. After working for a while at the PCO booth, Kapil joined a textile mill where he used to earn Rs. 900 per month. However, after a lot of struggle, Kapil's destiny changed when he auditioned for The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.

After winning the show, Kapil Sharma was seen in Comedy Circus, Ustaadon Ka Ustaad and Star Ya Rockstar. Finally, in 2013, Kapil launched his own comedy reality show, Comedy Nights with Kapil, and the rest is history that continues to grow exponentially. #1. Kapil Sharma tagged Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in a tweet revealing that he pays Rs. 15 crore tax

It was in 2016 when Kapil Sharma took to his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) and publicly stated that he had given Rs. 5 lakhs as a bribe to BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) in order to open an office. The comedian also tagged the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and it instantly became a massive controversy. The tweet could be read as "I am paying 15 crores income tax from last five years and still I have to pay 5 lacs to bribe to BMC office for making my office Narendra Modi, Yeh hain aapke achhe din?"

However, later it was revealed that Kapil Sharma made that tweet in a drunken state but the damage was done by then. As soon as the comedian accused BMC officials of taking bribes, an investigation was conducted, and it was revealed that Kapil was doing illegal activities and was involved in the construction of his property. In August 2016, BMC demolished the illegal extensions in his bungalows.

#2. Indian WWE wrestler, Saurav Gurjar accused Kapil Sharma of showing fake comments on his show

WWE wrestler, Saurav Gurjar played a vital negative role in the film, Brahmastra and received a lot of praise for his acting. During the film's promotion, he also appeared on Kapil Sharma's show, The Kapil Sharma Show, along with the film's star cast.

However, after he had gone home, he posted a tweet in which he accused Kapil Sharma's team of showing fake comments during the show's popular segment, Post Ka Postmortem. Saurav's tweet erupted a huge controversy as the entire Gurjar community started bashing Kapil and asked him to apologise to the wrestler. His tweet could be read as:

"Aap ache insaan hain @KapilSharmaK9 logo ko hasate hain lekin aap aur aapki team ye jhute comments kaisey dikha sakti hain kisi ki social media par. This is not acceptable. Jai Hind #TheKapilSharmaShow”.

#3. Kapil Sharma reportedly misbehaved with Marathi actress, Deepali Sayyad in a drunken state

During the wrap-up party of International Marathi Film Festival Awards 2015, ace comedian, Kapil Sharma reportedly misbehaved with popular Marathi actress, Deepali Sayyad. As per an unidentified person present at the party, Kapil tried to dance with Deepali, but the latter felt uncomfortable and excused herself.

After Deepali went away from Kapil, Sharad Kelkar sat the comedian down and explained to him that his behaviour with ladies wasn't going well. After Kapil received a lot of hate, he addressed the controversy and denied misbehaving with Deepali. However, by then, the people had made their own perceptions about the controversy, and it was Kapil who was grilled on social media.

#4. Kapil Sharma's insensitive joke about pregnant women

It was in 2014, when Kapil Sharma made an insensitive joke about pregnant women, and an NGO immediately filed a complaint against him at the Maharashtra State Commission. For the unversed, Kapil joked about the problem of potholes in India and stated, "Such roads (roads with potholes) also have their advantages. A poor person is taking his pregnant wife, and if he comes across a big pothole, on the spot delivery happens." The insensitive joke hurt the sentiments of women, and after their complaint, the MSC issued a show cause notice to Kapil Sharma and the Colours channel.

#5. Kapil Sharma made a sexist remark at Priyanka Chopra

According to several reports, Priyanka Chopra and Kapil Sharma had a rift during the Star Guild Awards back in January 2015. If the reports are to be believed, Priyanka kept Kapil waiting for 3 hours, as she arrived a bit late to the award function due to some personal reasons. However, upon her arrival, the comedian made a sexist remark towards the actress as he reportedly said, "Ladies logon ka yehi problem hai, madam abhi tak tayaar nahin hain." However, the two denied the reports of having a feud after some time, but people trolled Kapil for his alleged sexist remark.
