Madhuri Dixit and her on-screen chemistry with Salman Khan in Hum Apke Hain Kaun was loved by the entire nation, so much so that the film is still a favourite of the younger generation. However, not many know that Madhuri was offered another superhit film, Hum Saath Saath Hain, with the same star cast and director, Sooraj Barjatiya. Still, the actress straight away denied the role due to a scene with Salman Khan.
Salman and Madhuri's jodi were loved by millions, but the latter denied working with him in Hum Saath Saath Hain. In an old interview with Rediff.com, Madhuri shared that she didn't want to portray bhabhi-dewar role with Salman, as she had romanced him in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. She had revealed that in a scene, Salman had touched his bhabhi, Sadhana's (played by Tabu) feet. Madhuri was sure that people would not like them to play the devar-bhabhi role.

However, Sooraj Barjatiya was eager to work with Madhuri in the film, Hum Saath Saath Hain, but the latter didn't want to play a smaller role after the success of Hum Apke Hain Kaun. After much discussion, Sooraj dropped the idea of casting Madhuri in the film. The actress was quoted as saying:
"There is a scene in the film where Salman touches Tabu’s feet and he hugs Tabu. So there has to be this bhabhi-devar feeling between the two. But if you put me in Tabu’s place and visualize Salman touching my feet, I think people would have hooted in the theatres. I think its right, because of HAHK, which was a love story between Salman and me."
Madhuri Dixit always put across her point of view as a leading actress in the '90s. She never worked in films that didn't impress her. However, not many know, she was forced to do a rape scene in a film. During an episode of Annu Kapoor's radio show, Suhana Safar with Annu Kapoor, the host shared an anecdote about Madhuri Dixit. He said that Madhuri was forced to do the rape scene with Ranjit and added that she could not back out of it.
After this episode was aired, a Twitter user pointed out the whole episode and how Annu Kapoor used tone-deaf narration and added how he conveyed the incident with more spice instead of highlighting the issue. The social media user penned how her cab driver laughed at Annu Kapoor's statement, 'rape toh hoga', and she further added that the host of the show revealed that the entire crew clapped after the scene.
In the '90s, heroines often ended up getting compared, which would start a cold war between them for no apparent reason. In an interview with Lehren Retro, the director, Dharmesh Darshan, shared an anecdote with Juhi Chawla. He revealed that she was the first choice for Raja Hindustan, but she played hard to get. When he told her about the film, she said that it was just a normal film. To this, the director cited the example of the then-released superhit film, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, in which Madhuri Dixit's character stood out. To this, Juhi instantly said:
"But you’re not Sooraj Barjatya."
Dharmesh revealed that this remark pinched him, and he told Juhi straightaway, 'And you’re not Madhuri Dixit'. After this, Juhi backed out from the film. The director further added that a day later, she apologised to him.
