When Shahid Kapoor graced the cult show, Koffee With Karan 7, the show's host, Karan Johar asked him if he supported his wife, Mira Rajput Kapoor in what she does. Reflecting on the 13-year age gap between him and his wife, Shahid revealed that he cared for Mira like a kid as he was settled in his space, but for Mira, it was all too different. He added that he used to think that he knows too much so he would often tell Mira what to do and how to be in order to protect her. In his words:
"When we got married, I was 34 and she was 20. So I had to approach it very differently. She needed to be cared for, with kid gloves. She had left everything in her life and had come to Bombay. I was very established in my space. Sometimes, I used to feel like I know too much and I think I can tell her what to do and how to be. But I used to sometimes do it from a place of wanting to protect her. I was this kid from Lokhandwala, who at 21, did well and didn't know how to be.”
