Shabana Azmi is one of the most legendary actresses in the Indian film fraternity. She had started off her career back in the 70s, and had weaved a fantastic plethora of hit films that are recognised and loved even today. Daughter of eminent cinematographer, Baba Azmi, Shabana had been a student of the prestigious FTII in Pune, which formulated the talented foundation for her expert filmography. In her personal life, Shabana is married to lyricist, Javed Akhtar.
Recently, Shabana Azmi created a stir amongst the audience with her performance in the film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. More than that, it was her kissing scene with Dharmendra which left everyone stunned. Speaking along the same lines, Shabana, in an interaction with Zoom, revealed her niece and actress, Tabu’s reaction to her kissing scene in the film. She narrated:
“Tabu, jo meri niece hai, itni shaitan hai. Vo kehti hai aapne hila ke rakh diya industry. Ab sab aapki age ki ladkiyaan keh rahi hai ke kiss hogi toh hum karenge.”

Well, the kissing scene between two stalwart actors like Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi was quite an unexpected move, and nearly every member of the audience was surprised. In fact, the scene faced quite the backlash from many, since people were unable to accept such a move enacted by senior actors. Previously, in an interaction with Zoom Digital, Shabana Azmi reacted to the buzz that her scene created and said:
“I never thought it would create such a fuss! People are laughing and cheering when we do the kiss. While shooting it was never an issue. It is true that I haven’t kissed much on screen before. But who wouldn’t want to kiss a man as handsome as Dharmendra?”
In the same interview, Shabana Azmi also addressed whether her husband, Javed Akhtar had shared any objections to her on-screen kiss with Dharmendra in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Addressing the matter, the actress revealed that unlike the most obvious reaction which people expected, her husband, was every bit comfortable and not at all bothered. In fact, what he objected to was the rowdy behaviour she reflected while watching the film’s premiere beside him.

Not just Shabana Azmi, but Dharmendra, too had received quite the flak from the audience on agreeing to do a kissing scene at his old age. However, being professional actors, he didn’t bother much about the uproar it created in the masses. During a promotional event for RARKPK, Dharmendra talked about the highly debated scene and said:
“I am hearing that Shabana and I have surprised the audience with the kissing scene, and at the same time they have even applauded it. I think people weren’t expecting it and it came very suddenly which is why it created an impact. The last time I did a kissing scene was in Life In A Metro with Nafisa Ali and at that time too people had appreciated it."
