Bollywood actress, Jiah Khan's suicide case got a closure on April 28, 2023, when the accused actor, Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted. The CBI court declared the allegedly accused actor, innocent in the case due to lack of evidence. Afterwards, Rabia Khan mentioned that she would approach higher authorities to get justice for her daughter. But Sooraj said that due to Rabia's own guilty matters, she is trying to blame being a bad parent on someone else.
In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Sooraj Pancholi explained Jiah Khan's relationship with her family. He mentioned that Jiah was the sole earner in her family and used to look after her mother, Rabia Khan along with her mom's boyfriend and her sisters. However, Jiah was pushed to act without her wish and always craved love from her family. Sooraj shared:
"She was the only person supporting her two step sisters and her mother (Rabia Khan), and her mother’s partner, not even husband. Jiah had been supporting them since the age of 16. She was brought to the Hindi film industry at the age of 16 by her mother, even when Jiah didn’t want to pursue acting. She was pushed into films. She did enjoy it later, but it is not what she wanted to do. She wanted to study further. Yes, I loved Jiah, but love from me was not enough. Love from her family is what she needed and wanted."

In the same conversation, Sooraj revealed an incident in which he had informed Rabia about Jiah's suicidal tendency, her mother was not at all serious about this. Sooraj mentioned that when Jiah's mother got to know that the actress had cut her hands with a piece of glass, she showed no emergency in reaching out to her in India, but arrived here after a delay of three months. Sooraj added:
"Yes. It was 2012. I had sent for the doctors for her. If I was not present that day, she would have passed away long back. I had informed her mother at that time ‘aunty, this is what she has done’ She wounded herself really bad on her arm with a piece of glass. Her family was in London then, her mother said ‘beta you take care of Jiah, I am going to take the next flight’. It was three months before her mother showed up in India. Do you think that’s a normal way to be a mother? No it is not. If a scratch comes on your child, a person is worried and they will be there. Here, your daughter tried to kill herself! They didn’t share a normal relationship. Just because she is a mother does not mean they had good relations, does not mean she was a responsible or caring."
In 2013, Jiah Khan was found hanging by the ceiling in her Juhu residence. Then, Sooraj was taken into police custody for questioning, wherein he remained in custody for more than 3 weeks. Afterwards, on Rabia's request, CBI took over the case which went on for 10 long years. Finally, in April 2022, Sooraj was declared innocent by CBI in Jiah Khan's suicide case. But Rabia mentioned reaching out to higher authorities to seek justice in her case. Thus, talking about the same,
"She has all the right to. But you cannot change what the truth is. No matter what you do... when the police started investigating, she said police was wrong, then Jiah’s mother wanted a special investigation team, they were also wrong (according to her), then CBI came, which is the most powerful investigation team in India. I didn’t call for them, she did. They are on her side, not mine. It was not Sooraj Pancholi vs Rabia Khan in court today, it was Sooraj vs CBI. And now, even CBI is wrong for her! Tomorrow even the High Court and Supreme Court will be wrong for her, because she is guilty of being a bad parent. She wants to blame somebody else for it."

On April 28, 2023, when Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted in Jiah Khan's suicide case, he was seen distributing sweets to the media person. However, a certain section of the netizens were absolutely against his action and slammed the actor for his apparent inhuman gesture of sharing happiness over the death of a person. While some of the netizens felt that the verdict was rigged and justice was undelivered.
