Sridevi was one of the most popular actresses. She not only made a name for herself in Hindi cinema but her reach was spread across the globe. With 300 films to her credit, Sridevi had become one of the most successful heroines of her time. She was also credited as the first female superstar in Indian cinema.
Just like her professional life, Sridevi garnered a lot of attention for her personal life, too. She tied the knot with Boney Kapoor in 1996, who already had two kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, from his first wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor. There were many reports in the media back then of how Sridevi was a home wrecker and that she got pregnant before marriage. Boney and Sridevi embraced parenthood with the arrival of their daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

Boney Kapoor was so smitten by Sridevi that he couldn’t help but fall in love with her. He even confessed about his feelings to his ex-wife, Mona Shourie. At the India Today Woman Summit 2013, Boney Kapoor opened up the time when he told his ex-wife, Mona that he had fallen in love with Sridevi. Talking about the same, Boney shared:
“I was married then. I in fact had to confess to my ex-wife that I could not hold back. I tried to make Sridevi feel that there is someone who is concerned for her. I wanted to get into her system that I was there for her.”
In the same interaction, Boney revealed about his obsession with Sridevi. The producer mentioned that his wife's 'innocence' had won him. In his words:
“Basically, Sri's an introvert. Her job done, she'd keep to herself. But what impressed me was her innocence. She was not corrupted by artifice. Mere dil ko woh gherti chali gayee. My obsession for her only grew each time I met her. She was so simple despite being a superstar."

Boney Kapoor’s love for Sridevi knew no limits. He would go to great lengths to impress her. When Boney narrated the script of Mr. India to Sridevi, her mother, who was also her manager, quoted Rs. 10 lakhs. It was a huge amount at that time, and Sridevi was the highest-paid actress, too. After hearing the amount, Boney offered Rs. 11 lakhs for her appearance in Mr. India.
At a time when vanity vans and personal assistants were unheard of, Boney had arranged an exclusive van for Sridevi. When she was signed for Mr. India, Boney made sure that she got all the comforts while shooting for the film. To pamper her, Boney Kapoor had arranged the best make-up room and three costume designers.
Once, in a media interaction with DNA, Mona bared her heart out on Boney’s affair with Sridevi. Revealing how there was no looking back for him as Sridevi was already with a child, Mona stated:
“A second relationship was something that one had only read or heard about. But when it happened to me, at that very point my marriage was over. Respect, for me, is foremost. Love follows that. As we evolve, sometimes needs change. Boney too needed somebody else; not me. There was nothing left in the relationship to give it a chance because Sridevi was already with a child. Their rishta was kayam. That itself was a big statement for me to opt-out."
Boney Kapoor’s world turned upside down on February 24, 2018, when Sridevi passed away due to accidental drowning.
