When the leader of the Indian cricket team’s bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah was released from the squad in the middle of the fourth and final Test series against England, it had left the cricket fans puzzled. With his fans wondering why Bumrah left the competition in the middle, a source close to the ANI had confirmed that he had taken leaves for his wedding. While Jasprit had given no such confirmation or denial on the speculations of his wedding, it was on March 15, 2021, when he had introduced the love of his life, Sanjana Ganesan as his wife to the world. Former Splitsvilla contestant, Sanjana is also a widely popular face amongst TV presenters in the field, who had hosted an IPL auction back in 2018 and an exclusive show meant for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Good wishes and love have been pouring in for Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan as the couple became husband and wife after a two-day intimate wedding ceremony in Goa. To announce their ‘taken’ status and introducing each other as husband and wife, Sanjana and Jasprit had captioned their wedding pictures as ““Love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.” Steered by love, we have begun a new journey together. Today is one of the happiest days of our lives and we feel blessed to be able to share the news of our wedding and our joy with you. Jasprit & Sanjana.”
Ever since Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan had announced their wedding, their official photographers, designers and stylists have been sharing unseen pictures from their pre-wedding ceremonies. Kunal Rawal, who designed Jasprit’s sangeet outfit, posted pictures from the couple’s pre-wedding ceremony and describing the ensemble, he captioned the photos as “Jasprit Bumrah celebrates his sangeet in our signature deconstructed sherwani in midnight navy adorned with custom-made Kunal Rawal Ashoka buttons and bespoke patent black brogues to complete the look.” Sanjana chose a rich purple lehenga with gotta patti hand embroidery by Anita Dongre for the sangeet ceremony. She had paired an exquisite jadau jewellery from Pinkcity by Anita Dongre and completed her look with handcrafted shoes by Aprajita Toor. Sanjana and Jasprit also shook their legs on a romantic song at their sangeet and the video getting viral on social media, gives us a glimpse of the same.
For the haldi ceremony, Sanjana Ganesan opted for a Tuscany jamdani linen saree from the label, Anavila, which is priced at Rs 64,000. Jasprit Bumrah complemented his bride in a Antar Agni kurta set. For the mehendi ceremony, Sanjana and Jasprit opted for Anita Dongre ensembles. While Sanjana looked resplendent in a hand-painted lehenga featuring traditional Pichwai art, inspired by mystical Indian forest, Jasprit looked dapper in an off-shite sherwani which featured similar motifs. Sanjana and Jasprit's wedding video was shared on the official Instagram page of Mumbai Indians, which included pictures of the couple from their ceremonies. Sanjana Ganesan and Jasprit Bumrah became a Sabyasachi bride and groom as the couple had opted for beautiful creations by the designer. Describing Sanjana’s look, Sabyasachi had written on his official page, “Bride Sanjana Ganesan @sanjanaganesan wears a classic Sabyasachi bridal lehenga, meticulously embroidered using silk floss. Her look is accessorised with our signature heritage jewellery made with uncut diamonds, tourmalines and emeralds, set in 18k gold. @sabyasachijewelry.” Elaborating on Jasprit’s wedding look, Sabyasachi had written, “Groom Jasprit Bumrah @jaspritb1 wears a pale pink embroidered raw silk sherwani, paired with a tussar-georgette shawl embellished with ‘zari’ embroidery. His look is accessorised with strands of tourmalines and a kilangi studded with uncut diamonds and tourmalines from the Sabyasachi heritage jewellery collection @sabyasachijewelry.”
For the uninitiated, while not much is known about the love story of Sanjana Ganesan and Jasprit Bumrah, some reports suggest that the former had interviewed him in the 2013-2014 Indian Premier League season. Then during the award show, Naman, Sanjana and Jasprit came closer and soon, their friendship turned into love. Now, the lovebirds have embarked on their beautiful journey of ‘happily ever after’. In a clip going viral where Sanjana can be seen interviewing Bumrah, before their interaction, he was made to face his own bowling in a virtual reality game by the sports presenter. When asked about his experience, Jasprit had said, "I was playing against a very good bowler, difficult to tackle such bowlers. I would give him the credit."
