Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan is the ultimate king of romance, and his stardom knows no bounds. It was after the success of his film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, that SRK and Kajol became the most talked-about jodi in Bollywood. Their friendship gained so much limelight that it overshadowed Kajol and Ajay Devgn's love affair. Many filmmakers wanted to sign Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol after being impressed with their magical on-screen romance in DDLJ, but Ajay allegedly wanted Kajol to maintain her distance from King Khan.
Back in those days, reports were rife that Ajay Devgn was jealous of Shah Rukh Khan as people were crazy about the latter's chemistry with Kajol. According to a report in Masala.com, an insider had told a leading daily, that Ajay felt sidelined and he was not able to handle his competitor, King Khan, who shared an amazing relationship with the woman he was planning to get married to. The insider was quoted as saying:
"People were talking less about Kajol's relationship with Ajay and more about her friendship with SRK. All this took a toll on Ajay who felt sidelined. He allegedly couldn't handle the pressure of everyone talking about the chemistry his competitor shared with the women he was dating. He allegedly told her that she would have to stop working with Shahrukh."

In an interview with a leading daily, when Shah Rukh Khan was asked about the reports about Ajay Devgn being jealous of him, the actor called it a strange thing. He also took a sly dig at Ajay and shared that he would never have told his wife, Gauri Khan, to do such things, if she was an actress. He said:
"I wouldn't really know if Ajay has put any condition. If Kajol doesn't work with me because Ajay does not want her to, I will respect it. But I don't really think this has happened. It's quite strange. If Gauri was an actress, I wouldn't tell her whom to work with and who not to."
Some years back, during a media interaction at an event, when Kajol was asked if her husband, Ajay Devgn, and her best friend, Shah Rukh Khan share cold vibes, she gave a witty response. The actress shared that just because SRK and Ajay don't party together that doesn't mean they are enemies. She further mentioned that the two leading actors are not friends, but they never bad-mouth each other. In her words:
"If two people are not friends, that doesn't mean they are enemies. I have said this earlier also. Just because they don't party together and you don't see them clicking selfies, that doesn't mean that they hate each other or bad-mouth each other."

During the same interaction, Kajol also clarified that Shah Rukh Khan is her best friend and that she and her husband, Ajay never forced their friendships on each other. Talking about the same, the actress emphasised on the importance of giving your partner space rather than imposing your choices on them. She was quoted as saying:
"Yes, Shah Rukh is my friend, and I have been obvious that my friends are mine and I have never imposed my friendships on Ajay, and he has never done it either. We are both very clear about it. You need to give people that space."
Back in 2015, Shah Rukh Khan approached Kajol to work on his next project, but sadly, Ajay Devgn politely turned him away by saying that his wife would not work with him, but he didn't reveal the reason behind the same. It so happened that Ajay was receiving hate mails regarding his marriage with Kajol, as people asked him to divorce her because she is mad for SRK. However, in a conversation with India Forums, Shah Rukh Khan talked about the same and revealed that he didn't know about it until his wife received the same emails. Mentioning that Kajol might not work with him again, SRK said:
"First I didn't really care about them because people just do stupid stuff, but when I approached Kajol, Ajay told me all about it. So I told him about these emails my wife got. Ajay and I are quite upset about this, but now things seem to be working out. Kajol may not work with me again."
