Navya Nanda Reveals How Mom Shweta Bachchan Asks Her To Look After Guests Rather Than Bro Agastya

Navya Naveli Nanda has been using the power of social media in the right manner. She has been fighting for women's rights and is vocal about everything that she finds wrong in society. From gender disparity to period taboos, Navya’s clear and perfect opinion of everything truly makes her a role model. This time, the star kid talked about how the responsibility to run a home is indirectly put on a daughter rather than a son, and narrated how her mom, Shweta Bachchan, too, has done the same.

For the unversed, Navya Naveli Nanda is the granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, niece of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and daughter of Nikhil Nanda and Shweta Bachchan Nanda. She is a Fordham University graduate and had co-founded a healthcare portal, Aara Health, which aims to build awareness and services around female health in India. Other than this, Navya had also started working on a project called, Project Naveli, which focuses on women's empowerment by addressing the issues of gender inequality.

We have never seen Navya Naveli Nanda mince her words and she speaks her mind to perfection. In a conversation with SheThePeople, Navya narrated how her mother, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, asks her to take care of the guests instead of her brother, Agastya Nanda. She said:

“I’ve seen it happen at home where if we have any guests over, my mother will always say just go and get this or go and get that and I have to play the host as opposed to my brother, who could also be doing the same thing.”

Navya Naveli Nanda further mentioned that the way the responsibility to learn how to run home or be a host is put on daughters instead of sons, which makes every woman believe that she has to look after her house. She added:

“So I think specially in homes where you live with joint families, that responsibility of learning how to run the house or learning how to take care of guests or learning how to play host is always somehow put on the daughter. And I have never seen that importance being given to my brother or a younger boy in the house. I think that itself is ingraining women into believing that it’s our responsibility to look after the house.”

In April 2021, Navya had launched a first period positive home in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. In the initiative, Navya plans to build six more period positive homes to fight against the treatment given to women in villages when they are on their periods. Sharing the pictures from her initiative, Navya had written:

“Our first Period Positive Home was inaugurated today in Gadchiroli. Seeing this project come to life has been so fulfilling. We are excited to build 6 more homes such as these, very soon so we can continue to fight against the age old custom of banishment to huts during menstruation. Thank you for ensuring women everywhere can have a safe and happy period. “Menstruation is the only blood not born from violence, yet it’s the one that disgusts you the most”@projectnaveli @mukulmadhavfoundation.”
